Unbeaten Against the West

The Celtics beat the defending champion Spurs this afternoon at the TD Banknorth Garden. This was a huge win for the Celtics. They are finally beginning to get respect from basketball analysts. They were able to show the country that they can compete and win against the powerhouses of the West. That being said, two extremely good players, Kevin Garnett for the Celtics, and Mr. Eva Longoria, Tony Parker, for the Spurs, missed the game. We won't know how these teams match up when healthy until the Celtics go to San Antonio in March. Even though the teams weren't at 100%, this game was still big. If the Spurs won, they would have shown that the Celtics still have work to do if they want to be considered the cream of the crop. For the Celtics, a win would prove they can hang with the big boys even without their best player.

The real point of this blog is to inform the masses that their knowledge of Celtics basketball is inferior. I keep reading and hearing that the bench for the Celtics is weak. Well, if anyone believes this or says this, they have to be some of the most uninformed people I have ever seen. The reason that the Celtics are surviving without KG is because of the bench. Big Baby Glen Davis has been playing very well for a rookie. He comes off the bench and provides energy and all around good play. He scores points and rebounds. He has done whatever is asked of him and responded by playing veteran like. James Posey is one of the best sixth men in the league. He does a little bit of everything. His game is centered around hustle. He gets steals, assists, boards, and has the ability to hit the three. He is also a great defensive player. Eddie House comes off the bench and provides points. He is a pure shooter and is good for 10 points a game. Recently, Leon Powe has come in and has provided scoring and rebounds.

If the Celtics bench was as bad as people think, then there is no way that they would be winning games without KG. The Celtics have cultivated a bench that does everything a good bench should do: score, get boards, play defense and most of all, there isn't a let down in play when the players come in. People have to look beyond the big three to actually see that the bench has been an integral part of the Celtics success. They wouldn't be nearly as good without these guys and I hope people start realizing that the Celtics bench can compete with just about anyone.
